AV Manager

The AV Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire audio-visual operations, from managing multiple AV teams and ensuring high-quality service delivery to developing strategic plans for the department’s growth and efficiency. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of the AV services for the organization, ensuring that all events and projects meet or exceed client expectations. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and strategic thinking to manage both day-to-day operations and long-term development.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Manage and mentor multiple AV teams, including AV Team Leaders and Technicians, ensuring they are fully equipped to deliver high-quality results.
  • Set clear performance goals for the AV department and conduct regular evaluations to ensure objectives are met.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive working environment, ensuring open communication and effective teamwork.
  • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance team skills and keep up with industry trends.

 

Project and Event Oversight:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of all audio-visual services across various venues and events.
  • Collaborate closely with event organizers, production teams, and clients to understand specific AV needs, ensuring a seamless technical experience.
  • Conduct site inspections and pre-event assessments to ensure AV setups are optimally configured.
  • Troubleshoot complex AV issues during live events and provide high-level support to teams on the ground to ensure no disruptions.

 

Operational Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve the efficiency, scalability, and quality of AV service delivery.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to align AV operations with the organization’s overall business goals and objectives.
  • Forecast staffing needs based on event schedules and ensure teams are appropriately resourced.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of project timelines, ensuring all deadlines are met and technical requirements are delivered on time.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all aspects of AV operations to ensure consistency and best practices.

 

Financial and Resource Management:

  • Manage the AV department’s budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources, equipment procurement, and cost control.
  • Prepare financial reports and forecasts for senior management, tracking operational expenses and ensuring that the department stays within budget.
  • Negotiate contracts and maintain relationships with vendors and equipment suppliers, ensuring competitive pricing and timely delivery of products and services.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of AV equipment, ensuring proper maintenance schedules and timely replacement of obsolete technology.

 

Technical Expertise and Innovation:

  • Stay updated on emerging AV technologies and assess their potential to enhance service delivery.
  • Lead the implementation of new technologies, ensuring that teams are trained and capable of using advanced equipment such as video conferencing systems, streaming platforms, LED walls, projection mapping, etc.
  • Act as the technical authority for complex AV setups, providing guidance and expertise in sound engineering, video production, lighting systems, and network solutions for AV.

 

Client and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, event organizers, and internal stakeholders, acting as the primary point of contact for all high-level AV inquiries.
  • Ensure client satisfaction by delivering AV solutions that align with their vision and enhance the overall event experience.
  • Conduct post-event reviews with clients to gather feedback, improve service delivery, and ensure continuous improvement.

 

Risk Management and Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure all AV operations comply with health and safety regulations, particularly when dealing with large-scale installations and electrical equipment.
  • Identify potential risks in AV setups and take proactive measures to mitigate any issues that could affect service delivery.
  • Ensure that all team members follow best practices for equipment handling and installation to minimize accidents or equipment damage.

 

Continuous Improvement and Professional Development:

  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, identifying areas where processes can be streamlined and service quality enhanced.
  • Participate in industry events, workshops, and seminars to stay abreast of new trends and share knowledge with the AV team.
  • Work with HR and senior management to develop career progression plans for AV staff, encouraging growth and retention within the department.

 

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in AV operations, including hands-on experience in managing teams.
  • Proven track record of overseeing large-scale AV setups for live events, exhibitions, and corporate environments.
  • Previous experience managing budgets, resources, and vendor relationships.

 

Technical Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of AV systems, including sound engineering, lighting, video projection, LED screens, and network solutions.
  • Proficiency with audio consoles, lighting rigs, video conferencing systems, streaming technologies, and server equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on troubleshooting complex technical issues under pressure.

 

Leadership and Communication:

  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage and inspire large, diverse teams.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, team members, and senior management.

 

Other:

  • A degree or certification in AV technology, electronics, or related fields is preferred.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard safety practices and regulations.
